Mtn Ghana has been advertising unlimited plans on their website. Many people understand these plans to be plans without a download limit. This perception is wrong.

Mtn has a fair usage of 15GB on all their unlimited plans and about a 2GB limit on their 3 cedis per night plan.

The fair usage means that once you reach 15GB you get "rate-limited". Rate limiting is the act of cutting down your network throughput by the network admin.

For example you normally download at 800kbps, once you pass 15GB your download speed cuts to about 30kbps, which is barely enough for you to download songs quickly.

Verdict - If you just need to be online throughout the validity of your plan viewing pages and making scanty downloads, then their unlimited plans are for you but if you are looking for unlimited in its real sense as someone who makes a lot of downloads, then is DEFINITELY not for you.

Im pretty sure most people are used to the unlimited plans from Tigo. Well starting 25th May 2014, Tigo changed the plans and now they are only unlimited for the http protocol. Meaning that any request on a tcp port other than 80 is subject to quotas. This is tricky, so if your gonna subscribe to their internet connection be sure that any large internet transfers your gonna be doing is on a url or link starting with "http://" and not " https://".


Its helpful to know that most of the useful sites you access like Facebook, Google and twitter use "https" meaning that once your MB should finish you wont be able to access those sites.

As for downloading YouTube videos, you there are a few solutions for downloading them over http but to access the site in the first place you have to access the site via a https request which makes it not a very proper solution.

Verdit - Stick to tigo if you know that you can keep within the bundle limits or you require a maximum of 1gb over their current quota.

Tigo also offers plans top-up plans which are plans that are available to users who exhaust their quota before the expiry of their plans. Its given at subsidized rates.These plans vary depending on the plan you initially subscribed to.
